A Visionary Film

Story | A Visionary Film

The Yoruba people of West Africa have a saying: If a king sends you on a mission, it must be fulfilled – no matter what difficulties or dangers you must face.

There are moments when life makes us ask, “Who am I? Why am I here?” Many choose not to wrestle with such questions. But some feel driven to seek and to fulfill their lives’ purpose.

Across the King’s River is a feature length, documentary film that follows James Weeks and his daughter, Tulani, on their quest to answer that inner calling.

But to follow that calling, they must pay a high price.

After traveling to the Caribbean to get support from their ancestors, James and Tulani head to the West African countries of Nigeria and Senegal where powerful diviners and mystics reveal their true spiritual identities and send them on a mission to fulfill their destinies.

To be directed by legendary, Emmy-Award winning filmmaker, Stanley Nelson, considered by some to be one of the greatest documentary makers of our times, Across the King’s River takes audiences on an extraordinary journey of wisdom, self-discovery and healing.

A showcase of stunning cinematography, animation and music by Cuban jazz legend Omar Sosa, this visionary film also weaves together interviews with leading mathematicians, physicians and scientists as they explore amazing, sometimes surprising links between African spiritual and healing traditions and science.

But like all great films, Across the King’s River will capture viewers’ hearts and minds by drawing them into an intimate, powerful, unforgettable story that will leave them questioning both the way they live and what they think they know.
