Staying Grounded in Rocky Times

What a year!

Global pandemic. Recession. George Floyd. Protests. Civil Unrest.

No shortage of issues in 2020.

How are you doing? No, I mean how are you REALLY doing?

I heard from my friend Tony this morning. Hadn’t heard from him in months. He told me how he has REALLY been doing.

“Honestly, I had a dark time around George Floyd’s death,” he said. “Depression.”

He added: “This society/country is hard on my mental health.”

I understand. Let’s face it. The sad reality is George Floyd could have been my son, or perhaps your son. Not acceptable.

We’ve been fighting for justice for centuries and we cannot stop now.

Still, as a spiritual man, I believe 2020 is giving us an opportunity to reflect and to change. To get better and do better.

To not accept the status quo.

To imagine a new world and to fight for a new world.

“Humanity is rising,” my friend Monique, said yesterday. “I am marveling at the opening of this new portal.”

…I didn’t ask Monique what she sees in this new portal.

But she’s a poet, and a visionary and a mom. I know she must be seeing something profound.

In time, more of us might be blessed to see it too.

As for me?

I’m staying focused on who I can best serve and how I can best serve. It’s important to know which battle you can fight most effectively and how.

In the meantime, take care of yourself and your family, .

….Mentally, spiritually, physically.

Spend time every day focusing on what inspires you. Stay plugged into people who inspire you.

Do your best to stay grounded.

And as you fight the larger societal battles, do not neglect your personal goals and that you have power and influence.

This is all for now,

I promised Tony I will give him a call to check on him, so that’s what I am about to do. He’s a filmmaker and has been working with me on my upcoming documentary film. I need to help him through this rough patch.

We have things to do.

Let me know how I can help you, too. Feel free to write and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

All my love

James Weeks
